Sudama Setu

Sudama Setu

About this place

Sudama Setu is a pedestrian suspension bridge that spans the mouth of the Gomti River, linking the mainland near Dwarkadhish Temple to the small Panchnad/Panchkui island on the opposite side. The elegant, cable-supported structure gives superb views of the temple skyline, Gomti Ghat steps and the open sea beyond. Pilgrims cross to visit small tirthas and beaches on the island, while travellers come for photos, sea-breeze walks and sunset views. Because it is foot-only, the bridge feels calm compared to busy town roads. For Ghoomein, Sudama Setu is a great “drone-style” vantage point for reels featuring the full Dwarka waterfront in one frame.

History & highlights

The idea of a pedestrian bridge here was proposed in 2005 to improve access to offshore tirthas. Construction started in 2011, funded and executed with corporate participation, and the bridge was inaugurated in June 2016. It’s named after Sudama, Krishna’s childhood friend from Porbandar, whose story of humble devotion is beloved across Gujarat. Today Sudama Setu is both a practical link and a modern landmark on Dwarka’s heritage skyline.
