Walkway Mall is the signature shopping mall of Haldwani, located on the Haldwani–Nainital National Highway at Civil Lines. It’s built as an “A-grade” commercial and retail complex with around 1.5 lakh sq. ft. of space, housing fashion brands, lifestyle stores, restaurants and a multiplex cinema on the upper floor. For locals, it’s the go-to place for weekend hangouts, movies, food court outings and festival shopping; for travellers, it works as a comfortable stopover between the plains and the hills. With covered parking and a central air-conditioned atrium, Walkway Mall brings metro-style mall culture to the “Gateway of Kumaon” and is a big contrast to the traditional markets scattered around Tikonia, Mukhani and Bareilly Road.
About this place
History & highlights
Before Walkway Mall opened, Haldwani mainly depended on bazaar-style shopping streets and small complexes. The city was growing fast as a transport, education and industrial hub, but there was no organised mall where families could find branded retail, food and entertainment under one roof. Developers and hospitality chains saw the gap and came up with Walkway as the city’s first modern commercial-cum-retail mall, later also hosting the Fortune Walkway Mall hotel above it, tying shopping with business and leisure stays. Over time, the mall became a landmark: movie shows at its multiplex, seasonal décor and brand events draw people from across Haldwani–Kathgodam and even nearby towns like Lalkuan and Rudrapur, making it one of the most recognisable urban spaces in the Kumaon foothills.
